Tales of the Guardian

Once Upon a Time, in a different land, in a different world, Marline was born. Marline or Kamoh-hey, Daana-oh, Dian-laok, was known by many different names, each for a different reason, each in a different place.

Marline always wanted to go fighting and conquering and the idea of protect his land didn't suit him, especially if it meant having to learn by heart a lot of stories and the meaning behind them. So, Marline always tried his best to show his strength by the swords, even using two of them, a feat only permitted for very few warriors, only for those who would fight alone in the field.

He knew he had one chance to change his fate; before he became a man he could go in a solitary trip to discover himself, he could travel with a tutor or be part of a crew in a ship, but he would need earn this chance.

Only few months before the day came, a stranger arrived at his tribe. He was called Aywar Sla-Vantraine. He was a tall, skinny, young man, quite handsome, but somehow a little effeminate. Everybody respected him, despite his age; all regards were offered to him and even this "skinny like a stick" man never looked like unprotected or easy to defeat.

Aywar was there only for only few days and Marline became really curios about him, maybe if Aywar talked to the elders of his ability with swords, he would have a chance to have his much-wanted freedom, but Aywar never showed any interest in Marline. Even being so big and strong for his age, being fast and brave, Aywar never even looked at him. Then one day, feed up of being ignored, Marline decided to defy him to show he deserved attention.

- "Hey stick man, do you think you are better than me?" -Marline was holding a pair of wooden swords.
- ...
- "Yes, I am talking to you, mister all mighty!"
- "Oh, Kamoh-hey, I am not all mighty at all, and you have no reason to talk to me like that!"
- "You are here eating our food, sleeping with the women of the tribe and show no respect to me, the Noh-nah's Son!"
- "So, now youre somebody's son, but is it not you who want to go away alone, like a nobody's son, like a no tribe man?"
- "It is none of your concern, now I only want to show to everyone you are not any better than me and that you do not deserve such a gratitude for nothing."

Suddenly Aywar had moved, Marline didn't even see it, and Aywar was behind Marline already, a dagger in his back ready to kill him and and he heard that whisper he would never forget:

- If you want freedom go and get it, nobody is going to give it to you. People only take each other's liberty, they will make you think you are free, but you will be so deep in responsibilities with the tribe, with family and friends that you are jailed forever and don't even realize it. They respect me because they know I am free for real, I am here because I want to be, I shall be here as long as I want and I will do whatever I want! And only because I am free I am not killing you today, but if I so wished I would and nobody would stop me or do anything to me, because I AM FREE!

That was the first time Marline was called by Kamoh-hey, the last name he would have, and that was the first time he was afraid to die for real, because he Knew Aywar was serious when he said he would and he could kill him. And thats is the very point where the Tales of The Guardian started.
